Welcome to the official website of Nu Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc. We invite you to browse the site and learn more about our organization, community service to the Peoria community and
upcoming events.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the first Greek-letter organization established by and for African-American women. The sorority was formed at
Howard University, Washington, DC, in 1908 after Ethel Hedgeman Lyle of St. Louis, Missouri shared
her vision with eight other young ladies at the university to form a sisterhood. She viewed the sorority as an instrument
for enriching the social and intellectual aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interactions
with friends and mentors.
Alpha Kappa Alpha cultivates and encourages high scholastics and ethical standards
promoting unity and friendship among college and graduate women. We serve all mankind through a nucleus of more than
180,000 women in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is a sisterhood composed
of women who have consciously chosen this affiliation as a means of self-fulfillment through volunteer service.
